Device Manager error code and how to fix Device Manager error

Code 1: This device is not configured correctly. This device has no drivers installed or is configured incorrectly. Update the drivers by clicking Update Driver. If updating the driver does not work, consult the hardware documentation for more information.

Code 3: The driver for this device might be corrupted, or the level of available memory or other resources on your computer is too low. If the driver is corrupted, uninstall and then scan for new hardware to reinstall the driver. To search for new hardware, click the Action menu in Device Manager, then select Search for hardware changes. If the computer has insufficient memory to run the device, try to close some applications to make memory available. To check memory and system resources, click the right mouse button on My Computer, click Properties, click the Advanced tab, then click Settings in the Performance field. It may need to install additional RAM memory (RAM). On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the Troubleshooting Wizard.

Code 10: If the hardware key device contains the value FailReasonString, this string appears in the error message. The driver or enumerator places this string value registry at this location. If the hardware key contains no value FailReasonString, the following error message appears: This device can not start. Failed to start this device. Click Update Driver to update the drivers for this device. On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the Troubleshooting Wizard.

Code 12: This device cannot find enough free resources for its operation. If you want to use it, you should disable any other devices on this system. The same ports I/O, the same interrupt, or the same access channel direct memory access (by the BIOS, operating system or a combination of both) were assigned to two devices. This error message may also appear if the BIOS did not allocate enough resources to the device (for example, if a USB controller is not an interrupt from the BIOS because of a MPS table (Multiprocessor System) is damaged).Use Device Manager to determine where the conflict is and disable the conflicting device. On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the Troubleshooting Wizard.

Code 14: This device will not work properly until you restart your computer. Restart the computer.

Code 16: Windows can not identify all the resources this device uses. The device is only partially configured. To specify additional resources for this device, click the Resources tab in Device Manager. If a question is located next to a resource in the resource assigned to the device, select that resource to assign to the device. If the resource can not be changed, click Change settings. If Change Settings is unavailable, try to disable the check box Use automatic settings to make it available. If this is not a Plug and Play, see the hardware documentation for more information. On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the Troubleshooting Wizard.

Code 18: Reinstall the drivers for this device. The drivers for this device must be reinstalled. Click on Update Driver Update to start the Update Wizard equipment. Otherwise, uninstall the driver, then click on Search for hardware changes to reload the drivers.

Code 19: Windows can not start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. To resolve this problem, you can first try running a Troubleshooting Wizard. If this does not work, you must uninstall and reinstall the hardware device. A registry problem was detected. This can occur when multiple services are defined for a device, on failure to open the subkey service or if the driver name can not be obtained in the sub-key service. Try the following options:

1. On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the Troubleshooting Wizard.

2. Click Uninstall, then click Scan for hardware changes to load a usable driver.

3. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then select Last Known Good Configuration. The computer returns to the last successful registry configuration.

Code 21: Windows is removing this device. Wait a few seconds, then refresh the Device Manager. If the device appears, restart the computer.

Code 22: This device is disabled. The device is disabled because a user disabled it using Device Manager. Click Enable Device. The Activate Device Wizard starts.

Code 24: This device is not present, not working correctly or all the drivers are not installed. The device seems to be missing. The hardware may be bad or a new driver might be needed. Devices stay in this state if they are ready to be removed. After removing the device, this error disappears. On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the Troubleshooting Wizard.

Code 28: The drivers for this device are not installed. To install the drivers for this device, click Update Driver. The Update Wizard starts the Hardware.

Code 29: This device is disabled because the firmware of the device did not give it the required resources. Enable the device in the BIOS of the device. For more information about this change, consult the hardware documentation or contact the hardware manufacturer. On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the Troubleshooting Wizard.

Code 31: This device is not working properly because Windows can not load the drivers required. Windows can not load the driver. Try updating the driver for this device. On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the Troubleshooting Wizard.

Code 32: The driver or service for this device has been disabled. It may be that another driver provides the same functionality. The startup type of this driver is set to "disabled" in the registry. Uninstall the driver, then click on Search for hardware changes to reinstall or upgrade the driver. On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the Troubleshooting Wizard. If the driver is required and if reinstalling or upgrading does not change the startup type in the registry by using Registry Editor.

Code 33: Windows can not determine what resources are required for this device. The translator that determines the types of resources to the device failed. Contact the manufacturer of the hardware and configure or replace hardware. On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the Troubleshooting Wizard.

Code 34: Windows can not determine the settings for this device. Consult the documentation that accompanies this device and use the Resource tab to set the configuration. The device requires manual configuration. Change the hardware settings by setting jumpers or running a tool provided by the manufacturer, then use the Resources tab in Device Manager to configure the device. On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the Troubleshooting Wizard.
