How to speed up laggy, slow online game?


The slow or laggy online games performance can be attributed to many factors. They can be connection speed, the location of server, and also your computer's graphic card, memory, CPU, and your hard disk. You need to check the software of your game's system requirements to see if your computer meets them. You should know that meeting the minimum requirements are far from enough. If your computer does not have enough resource to have a good performance of your game, you can try the following:

Note: You should be experienced enough to do the following. Imporperly adjusting system settings will cause your computer mafunctioning!

1. Increase the virtual memory if your hard drive has enough extra space. The following are the steps:

In Windows XP

1) Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2) Click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System.
3) On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.
4) On the Advanced tab, under Virtual memory, click Change.
5) Under Drive [Volume Label], click the drive that contains the paging file that you want to change.
6) Under Paging file size for selected drive, click to Custom size check box. You can enter the amount of memory you would like to reserve for Virtual memory by entering the initial and maximum size. You should choose the same amount for the initial size and maximum size. This will Stop your CPU from constantly changing the paging file. For example, 800 and 800. The value should be at least 1.5 times more than your physical RAM. If your computer has 1 gb or 1000 mb of RAM increase the virtual memory paging file to 1.5*1000= 1500. You can try 4096 for both. Some experts think that this is the best value. This also applies to Vista computer.
7) Click Set. When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.

In Vista or Windows 7

1) Click Start button Picture of the Start button.
2) Click Control Panel.
3) Choose System and Maintenance and then click System.
4) In the left pane, click Advanced system settings.
5) On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.
6) Click the Advanced tab, and then, under Virtual memory, choose Change.
7) Click Custom to change the Initial size (MB) and Maximum size. Do the same as above indicated.

2. Stop any unnecessary Windows' services.

3. Defragment your hard drive.

4. Increase max connections per server. The following are the steps:

Internet Explorer 7 users:

1) Go to registry editor and find:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Internet Settings

2) Internet Settings should be selected on the left column.
3) Go to Edit > New > DWORD Value.
4) A box should appear. Put the name as "MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server", without double quotes. Press Enter.
5) Double click the entry you just created, select Base as "Decimal" and type 10 under Value data.
6) Go to Edit > New > DWORD Value.
7) A box should appear. Put the name as "MaxConnectionsPerServer", without double quotes. Press Enter.
8) Double click the entry you just created, select Base as "Decimal" and type 10 under Value data.
9) Close Registry Editor.
10) Restart your system.

Internet Explorer 8 users:

1) Go to registry editor and find:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\
MAIN\FeatureControl\FEATURE_MAXCONNECTIONSPERSERVER:

2) FEATURE_MAXCONNECTIONSPERSERVER should be selected on the left column.
3) Go to Edit > New > DWORD Value.
4) A box should appear. Put the name as "iexplore.exe", without double quotes. Press Enter.
5) Double click the entry you just created, select Base as "Decimal" and type 10 under Value data.
6) On the left, click on FEATURE_MAXCONNECTIONSPER1_0SERVER, which is just near to the one already selected.
7) Go to Edit > New > DWORD Value.
8) A box should appear. Put the name as "iexplore.exe", without double quotes. Press Enter.
9) Double click the entry you just created, select Base as "Decimal" and type 10 under Value data.
10) Close Registry Editor.
11) Restart your system.
