How to use remote desktop?


Before using the Remote Desktop, you should know that Remote Desktop feature needs to be enabled on the host computer first by logging on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group.

To setup the host computer to use Remote Desktop, take the following steps:

1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Performance and Maintenance. 2. Click System.

3. Click the Remote tab, select the Allow users to connect remotely to this computer check box, and then click OK.

4. Make sure you have Windows Firewall set up to allow exceptions (add remote desktop to Exceptions).

To create a new Remote Desktop Connection, take the following steps:

1. Click Start --> Programs or All Programs --> Accessories --> Communications -->Remote Desktop Connection.

2. In Computer, type the computer name for your computer running Windows XP Professional that has Remote Desktop enabled and for which you have Remote Desktop permissions.

3. Click Connect. The Log On to Windows dialog box appears.

4. In the Log On to Windows dialog box, type your user name, password, and domain (if required), and then click OK. All done!

To log off and end the session, take the following steps:

1. In the Remote Desktop Connection window, click Start, and then click Shut Down.

2. The Shut Down Windows dialog box appears.

3. In the drop-down menu, select Log Off , and then click OK.
