Computer won't shut down

First of all, if you see the error message, write down a detailed description of the problem. Then, manually power down your computer by holding in the computer's power button until the system shuts down.

Shutdown problems have many causes, ranging from driver conflicts and incompatible BIOS settings to corrupt sound files and programs that fail to close properly. Figuring out the cause of your problem requires a thorough assessment of the situation and you should pay special attention to any recent changes to your system.

If this is the first time you have the shutdown problem, you should do the following 6 things:

1. Clean up the hard drive.
2. Do the defragment for your computer.
3. Run anti-virus programs.
4. Restore your system to a previous configuration.
5. Update the hardware drivers.
6. Download the most recent Windows updates and software patches.
