Computer setup
Setup for XP computer
If your computer does not have wireless network support built in, you can install a wired or a wireless network adapter. Windows XP will automatically detect the new adapter and might prompt you to insert the CD that came with it. The on-screen instructions will guide you through the configuration process.
1. Windows XP (with sp2) will show an icon with a notification that says it has found wireless networks. If there is no such an icon, maybe your wireless network card is not enabled. So you need to enable it first.
2. Right-click the wireless network icon in the lower right corner of your screen, and then click View Available Wireless Networks.
3. The Wireless Network Connection window appears and displays your wireless network listed with the SSID you chose. If you don't see your network, click Refresh network list in the upper left corner. Click your network, and then click Connect in the lower right corner.
4. Windows XP prompts you to enter a key. Type the encryption key that you wrote down earlier in both the Network key and Confirm network key boxes, and then click Connect.
5. Windows XP will show its progress as it connects to your network. If the Wireless Network Connection window continues to show Acquiring Network Address, you may have mistyped the encryption key-click Cancel and return to step 3.
Setup for Windows 7 computer
1. Open Connect to a Network by right-clicking the network icon or in the notification area.
2. Choose the wireless network from the list that appears, and then click Connect. If you want to connect the internet automatically every time when windows starts, after clicking on the name of the wireless network, click the checkbox "Connect Automatically". If there is no such a checkbox, there may be your router security setting was not set properly.
3. Type the network security key or passphrase if you are asked to do so, and then click OK. You'll see a confirmation message when you are connected to the network.
Note:
1. If you don't see icons in the Network folder or at systray, then network discovery and file sharing might be turned off.
2. If your wireless network name is not listed, click on "Open Network and Sharing Center" at the bottom to bring up the Control Panel and click on "Manage wireless networks", and then click on "Add" on the sub-meun bar to show "manually connect to wireless wizard" and then follow the instructions to finish manual wireless network setup. You can also try the following:
Control Panel --> Networks and sharing center --> Manage wireless networks
Setup for Vista computer
1. Click the Start, and then click Connect To.
2. Choose the wireless network from the list that appears, and then click Connect.
3. Type the network security key or passphrase if you are asked to do so, and then click OK. You will see a confirmation message when you are connected to the network.
Note:
If you cannot get your wireless work and find the Wireless Zero Configuration cannot be started automatically even if automatic selected, it is possible that in the wireless adapter utility, you select "use this software to manage wireless connection". You need to turn off this option. Or try to use this utility to configure your wireless connection.
